Case Summary
DIGITPOL successfully tracked and recovered two high-value vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz E-Class and an Audi A6, after both vehicles were stolen in Germany and trafficked across international borders into Serbia.
The investigation identified the vehicles as part of a transnational organised vehicle crime operation. Working in close cooperation with DIGITPOL Serbia, intelligence was developed and coordinated with the Serbian Police.
Following the location of the vehicles in Serbia, the Serbian Police responded rapidly and successfully intercepted and secured both the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6.
After completion of the necessary recovery and release procedures in Serbia, both vehicles were repatriated from Serbia back to Germany and successfully returned to their rightful owners.
Vehicle Identification & Cross-Border Investigation
International vehicle trafficking can involve stolen vehicles being moved through several countries, provided with fraudulent documentation, false registration plates or altered vehicle identities in an attempt to conceal their origin.
DIGITPOL's Vehicle Crime Division combines vehicle tracking technology, investigative intelligence and forensic VIN analysis to trace and identify stolen and wanted vehicles, including cases where a vehicle's identity has been altered or disguised.
Through DIGITPOL Serbia and its operational capability in Belgrade, intelligence can be rapidly coordinated with the relevant authorities when stolen vehicles are identified within Serbia and the wider Western Balkans.
