Command Unit Forensics
Infotainment, GPS and Telematics Forensics
Digitpol specialises in the forensic investigation of OEM infotainment, GPS, telematics, and command systems, identifying, acquiring, and analysing critical digital evidence stored within embedded vehicle platforms. Since 2009, our automotive forensic specialists have developed advanced investigative techniques for recovering forensic data from factory-installed navigation and infotainment systems, supporting both law enforcement investigations and vehicle manufacturers. Modern infotainment and telematics systems contain extensive information relating to vehicle operation, navigation, communications, and user activity.
Using specialised forensic tools and validated acquisition methodologies, Digitpol extracts and analyses this data while preserving its evidential integrity. Through collaboration with vehicle and system manufacturers, we maintain expertise across a wide range of OEM platforms, enabling comprehensive examinations of embedded vehicle systems. Our forensic investigations can recover valuable evidence including Bluetooth pairing records from both paired and previously connected devices, incoming, outgoing and missed call logs, recent GPS locations, navigation history and entered destinations, driver profile information, radio and RDS data, multimedia files, photographs, music metadata, system event logs, and numerous historical artefacts that assist investigators in reconstructing vehicle usage and user activity.
Command Unit forensics is a branch of digital forensics relating to recovery of digital evidence or data stored in automotive modules such as units allocated to the CAN BUS network referred to as GPS units, Command or Head-Up Units. Data such as GPS routes, locations, way points, paired mobile phone data, calls, contacts and GPRS data can be recovered under forensically sound conditions. Digitpol is an accredited vehicle forensics examination agency, we conduct examination on all types of vehicles and command units to undercover evidence that can be used to investigate crimes
Our Solutions

Our Expertise
We conduct forensic analysis on automotive GPS systems for Law Enforcement Agencies and testing for OEM’s. We specialise in the examination of built-in OEM GPS Satellite Navigation systems, known as Infotainment or Telematics systems. Our forensic team has been conducting research since 2009 on the investigative techniques to aquire forensics data from embedded vehicle GPS systems. Together with system manufactueres we have built a solid and robust method to recover forensic data.
On behalf of LEA and Insurance firms, our SMV team have capabilities to recover deleted forensic from coded parts. We can recover deleted KM, VIN and Serial numbers from flash and memory chips using a method known as chip-off forensics.
- Chip-off forensics
- Recovered Identities
- Recovered Deleted Data
- Recovered KM data
We specialise in Digital Investigation of Motor Insurance Fraud. We are experts in the analysis of “staged collisions” where a vehicle has been reported however the collision never happened. We deploy digital forensic methods to undercover the traces stored in vehicle modules. We recover the last events such as any collisions and can identify the vehicles engine temperature at the time of the collision, the KM reading and the time and date the collision took place. These parameters often assist claims handlers to solve or verify claims. In some cases a fraudulent claim can be detected.
